5 Most Popular Social Media for July 2012

Every month eBizMBA Inc. comes out with a listing of the most popular site in each category on the internet. They base this on the monthly average done by Alexa Global Traffic Rank and U.S. Traffic Rank. If you talk to any of your internet marketing agencies in Phoenix, they’d tell you how important this listing is.

For those delving into social media for the first time or thinking of opening another account in the medium, it’s good to monitor which social media is maintaining their place, which is on the fast rise and which ones are fast tumbling down.

1. Facebook
As usual, Facebook has once again topped the list for the most popular social media. Although the dorm-room founded company is currently having stock problems when it went public, it was still not abandoned by its loyal fans and has garnered an estimate of 750,000,000 monthly visits. In a month, Facebook has global percentage traffic of 45.29% among all online users. For this month, Facebook’s traffic has risen by about .52%

2. Twitter
Not only has this micro-blogging site placed second among the social media for July but it turns out it’s also the most preferred social media tool in 100 firms in the Fortune Global. Almost 90% of these top firms have a Twitter account compared to other social media. Its estimated monthly visitors are 250,000,000. A little more 8% of the online population visited Twitter this month, which went down by .6%.

3. LinkedIn
The most popular B2B or business to business social media, it’s a professional based site which links companies to the employees. Here you can put your business accomplishments like an online resume site where other companies can headhunt you.  LinkedIn has a monthly visit of 110,000,000. It positioned 13 in the traffic rank according to Alexa. It went down by 5.8% for the month.

4. MySpace
Between 2005 and 2008, MySpace was the most visited social media in the whole world, even besting Google in 2006 as the most visited website. By April of 2008, it was bumped off by Facebook and has been then on a decline. Bought by Justin Timberlake and Specific Media Group in 2011 and despite having a traffic rank of 176 and declining every year, it still has estimated monthly visitors 70,500,000.

5. Google+
Also called Google Plus and G+, it was said to be Google’s answer to Facebook. It was launched just last year and has gained about 250 million registered users. Google describes it as its “social layer” to add to its many features. As of July 2012, Google+ has an estimated 65,000,000 monthly visitors. In Alexa it has been ranking number 1 for the last 3 months and has a percentage of about 49% of global internet users.

Your internet marketing firm in Phoenix can very well explain to you the meaning of each figure but as an overview, it would be nice to get an idea. Each month has its surprises, such as Pinterest missing in the picture and MySpace still going strong. But that’s the thing with SEO. It has the ability to pull the ground from under your feet.
